Video Tutorial on how-to Repair the ASUS EeePC 1001HA or any 1000 series including 1005 model Netbooks. You will see how to Replace the SATA Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and RAM. This requires you to pull it apart and dissemblance it and then reassembly and put it back together with screw drivers. I also show that it still works after doing this and install Pinguy OS a Ubuntu Linux remix on it. Original video production by the www.OSGUI.com Tech Show. Vancouver 2010! It’s a big enough event that it merits its own line of notebooks and netbooks. I have a quick look at this thing, which honestly feels like a great showcase for how far Acer has come in the last 5 years. It’s solidly built, slick looking, and I’m genuinely impressed!

great video, saved me a lot of fiddeling about finding the right spots to undo the plastic covers. Do you happen to have a model number of the WD drive you put back in? My 160ST has intermittand boot problems, I’d better replace it while I can still get the software from it. Any advise on replacements? Cheers,

    thanks for sharing

And the upgrade is finished. You left a few screw removals out of your video but thats fine once you start pulling the thing apart you eventually notice that the screw by the ram under the ram door needs to be removed and also when removing the harddrive you must also remove the screw bolting the drive down which i didnt think to look for.

All in all im already installing win7 into my 120GB OCZ vertex 2 SSD and awaiting to see the results. Thanks for the video.

  23. OSGUIShow on October 24, 2011 at 7:15 pm

    @alan87guitarist yeah so true
    yep

  24. alan87guitarist on October 24, 2011 at 7:22 pm

I have the 1001HA version. I found replacing RAM simple and I had taken the back off and had a sneaky suspicion the keyboard had to come off and this video helped prove my theory. I think they all come 160GB as standard. Is the 250GB the best upgrade….I guess 500GB and 1TB HDD’s are just too big for these small netbooks?

Not bothered to be fair, cause I have an external 2TB HDD =)

    vancouver !!!! wuhhhuuu!!!!!

  32. Bayngan on October 24, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Oh Kay, now that’s what Im talkin about!

  33. TheAcerGuy on October 24, 2011 at 11:28 pm

@Bayngan and what I meant was the second generation Timelines (I work for Acer, obviously…). There’s ALWAYS a compromise somewhere with long battery life which is what the Timeline series is all about but the Timeline X series have significantly greater performance (Core i3, i5 and i7 chips) and they’ve got the switchable graphics technology down a lot better too and by using ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 and HD 5650 GPUs, this time you can actually use them for games. ;-)

  34. Bayngan on October 25, 2011 at 12:12 am

lol, no I meant performance power. If they could start releasing Higher configs, esp. for gamers… I like the battery life acer has though , my Acer LT runs longer than my friends’

  35. TheAcerGuy on October 25, 2011 at 12:47 am

first they got battery life up to 8+ hours. With the new models they’re about to add a whole bunch of power.

  36. TheAcerGuy on October 25, 2011 at 1:30 am

Yes it is. Brushed aluminum on all these limited edition models.

  37. pohlmeyer on October 25, 2011 at 2:17 am

Is the lid really brushed aluminum??? It looks like silver plastic in the video.

  43. Bayngan on October 25, 2011 at 4:36 am

OK, so now we’ve finally seen the camera man…. 3:49, black Shirt, black hair, light skin…. :P .

Eitherway, if only acer could add more power to their products, their designs are sleek. Guess they’re going for the low-budget consumer market it seems.

  44. sageosaka on October 25, 2011 at 5:00 am

Linus seems like he’d be a cool dude to hang out with.

  45. thetshirtblog on October 25, 2011 at 5:30 am

  46. ninusanje on October 25, 2011 at 5:40 am

  47. vwestlife on October 25, 2011 at 6:07 am

I dunno if it’s specific to the Olympic Edition, but this one has a multilingual keyboard… the layout is different, and there are all sorts of fancy characters you can type by using the “Alt Gr” key.

  48. aqnd on October 25, 2011 at 6:51 am

    Future-proofing.

  49. rww100 on October 25, 2011 at 7:24 am

You don’t really want to overclock laptops/netbooks as doing so would seriously affect the battery life and the cooling inside laptops would probably be insufficient. Also, you’d probably be locked out of doing so in the BIOS anyway.

  50. Bartholamue on October 25, 2011 at 8:16 am

    He works for NCIX
